Aloha Stadium - The Palace of Rust

Aloha Stadium opened its doors in 1975. At the time, its innovative movable seat sections allowed for configurations for football, baseball, soccer and concerts. For many years, it was home to University of Hawaii football, the NFL’s Pro Bowl, the Hawaii Islanders baseball team and Team Hawaii soccer. The stadium also hosted concerts by Madonna, Kalapana, C&K, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Bruno Mars and The Rolling Stones.

Over its thirty year span, the stadium experienced corrosion and rusting, which led to safety concerns and costly repairs. By 2020, the growing maintenance and safety issues ultimately forced the indefinite closure of the stadium to fans.

February 25, 2023, marked the final day of Aloha Stadium and Old Queen Street Stadium (“OQSS”) was there to help with the closing festivities. OQSS converted the stadium’s locker rooms into a museum and attendees were allowed to view jerseys, memorabilia and photos commemorating the stadium’s history.

As part of the celebration, OQSS and Solario released limited edition t-shirts which sold out in minutes. If you were not able to get one, OQSS will be re-releasing them in two color ways. The first colorway, bone, is a nod to the original OQSS x Solario collab with “ALOHA STADIUM” on the back. The second colorway, coral, is a nod to the stadiums ultimate demise. This colorway features “RUST PALACE” on the back.

Don’t miss out. The official release date will be September 1, 2025.

Many thanks to Kevin Sebastian, Samantha, Binnie and Nigel Guerrero for all their help with the photos for this post.
