(COMING SOON 12/18/25) Klum Gym
History:
Klum Gym was named after Otto Klum, the “Father of UH football,” who guided the University of Hawaii (“UH”) to an 84-51-7 mark during his 19 seasons (1921-39). In 1924, ’25 and ’34, he coached undefeated UH football teams.
During Klum’s reign, another UH tradition emerged. In the final game of the 1923 season, a rainbow appeared over the gridiron late during the team’s contest against Oregon State. The Deans scored shortly thereafter and held on to win,7-0. Reporters started calling UH teams the “Rainbows,” and the tradition began that when- ever a rainbow appeared from the “Manoa Mist” over the UH campus, Hawaii could not lose.
Built in the 1950s, Klum Gym served as the home court for UH’s indoor teams (the men’s and women’s volleyball teams and the women’s basketball team) until 1994, when they made the Stan Sheriff Center their new home.
